Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
  1. What are "Vertical Doors"?
"Vertical Doors" is the slang used to describe scissor doors, vertical doors and Diablo doors or door conversion kits by many people. The "Vertical Doors" slang of course comes from the way a Lamborghini doors open up vertically. The vertical door kit is designed to let the vehicle doors open vertically by simply replacing car’s factory door hinges. This system is a hinge kit that converts your doors to open "Lambo" style. The term Lambo door is a fairly new one, these conversions are also known as scissor doors, or vertical opening doors, (and sometimes incorrectly as gullwing or butterfly doors). Essentially the doors open upward, in the general style of that used on most Lamborghini's. It is a kit that allows you to convert your normal side opening doors into Lambo Doors. It includes a mechanism and fitting items that basically replace your standard hinges. Doors, handles (or lack of them), locks and strikers remain unchanged.

  2. Are the hinges made specifically to fit my vehicle?
We sell many different types of door hinges. We offer a wide variety of Direct Bolt On Door Conversion Kits, and Universal Weld On Conversion Kits. Vertical Door Kits that are universal, will work with 99% of cars and trucks. Bolt On Conversion Kits are car specific and fit only the vehicle model advertised. Please always refer to the details of the product you are interested in before buying. Or you can always email us at info@vertidoors.com if you have any questions.

  3. I own a ................ and I am interested in putting Vertical Doors on it. I see you do not have a direct bolt-on application for this vehicle so I am wondering if the Universal System will work?
Absolutely! We always have them in stock as well. The Universal Car and Truck Systems can work on 99% of all vehicles. Please email us for more details. The kit is a weld on/bolt on Universal system which requires the drilling/welding of your vehicles bolt pattern onto the hinges we send you - in most cases nothing is drilled or altered on your vehicle, just the parts we send you! For Universal Kits’ installations we highly recommend getting it completed by an experienced body shop or custom tuning shop because on some vehicles things can get tricky. But we have seen these systems installed on almost every vehicle. Please email us so that we can email you a more detailed instructions manual via email in a PDF format.

  4. I have a Convertible (or 4 door, or 4WD or sports car) - can I have Vertical doors?
Yes. If your car has doors then you can almost certainly have Vertical doors. The conversion changes the way that the doors operate and nothing else.

  5. Will the doors retain the factory door seal?
Yes. All cars’ original doors are retained. The door kit uses factory measurements for setting the pivot point on Vertical door hinge. This means that Vertical door hinge pivots as a stock hinge with multiple adjustment options to achieve a factory tight seal. *NOTE: Professional installation is required & recommended.

  6. What holds the doors up?
Each door stays open by the force of a gas shock. Our shocks are carefully made to exact specifications for each kit. Our shocks are tested for the exact force rating needed to make the doors rise effortlessly for each vehicle model. All of our Bolt On Door Kits include a pair of 650 or 750 or 850 pound rated gas assisted struts that hold your doors open and in vertical position, they also make opening and closing your doors easier. There is one shock per door. These shocks will not mechanically open and close the doors for you; your guidance will be needed. They act just like the gas struts on your car hood.

  7. How high do the doors go up?
All of the Bolt On Door Conversion Kits will allow you to raise your doors up to 75 degrees. Universal Weld on Kits will allow your doors to go up to 90 degrees.

  8. Do I get new doors with the Kit?
No, you will use your existing factory doors and our replacement door hinge mechanism.

  9. What is Fender-Rolling?
We would suggest that the step of fender rolling is done on all cars when a Vertical System is being installed. It is a very easy simple process. "Fender-rolling" consists of folding the inner lip of the fender well arch into a tighter V-shape or completely flat U-shape that will enhance clearance for the hinges. It allows extra clearance for the vertical door kit to lift up in the air and back down. The fender-rolling step is inside the fender, in which case no one sees the liner and also the inner lip can be folded back even in the future.

  10. I could just make a Vertical door kit myself couldn't I?
Possibly not. Each mechanism requires a total of about 40 separate parts, some Laser cut, many CNC milled, lathed, turned, and tapped to very high tolerances. Then of course there is our own Custom Door Support Shock which you can not buy elsewhere!

  11. Do Vertical doors fit every vehicle?
There are specific direct bolt on Vertical door kits for specific vehicles. They are made to easily bolt on to your car/truck. There are also universal Vertical doors that are made to fit any car/truck. *NOTE: Professional installation is required & recommended.

  12. What is the difference between a weld-on kit and a bolt-on kit?
Nothing. The mechanism itself is almost identical. The weld-on kit contains a couple of extra items that convert the car to accept a bolt-on kit. These extra items need to be welded to the car and/or door to enable the kit to be fitted. Many European cars need the conversion carried out, since they have weld-on hinges as standard - obviously you cannot bolt a kit to a hinge that was originally welded.

  13. Can I install the Vertical Doors Kit by myself or will I need professional support? Does it require any modifications to fit my vehicle?
We always recommend getting any of the Vertical Door Kits that we sell to be installed at a professional collision shop. However, people with strong technical and mechanical skills will be able to install most of the kits that we sell by them selves. Please keep in mind that sometimes modifications will be needed in order to align the doors when the kit is being installed. There are modifications that might need to be made during the installation that could require additional fabrication such as rolling or stamping the corner of the fenders for maximum door clearance. The kits are not difficult to fit. They require general tools (screwdrivers, spanners, and an electrical pliers). The various kits vary but some need to be fitted by a competent welder to install the mounting plate on weld-on versions, after which the fitting procedure is little different than the bolt-on kits (some welding is required onto the doors of many cars). With all kits it is the adjusting that takes most of the time.

  14. How many persons are necessary to install the Vertical Doors Kit?
Two persons to guarantee a safe installation should install the Vertical Door Kit. Especially for adjusting the doors and installing the gas shocks, two persons are necessary.

  15. Can the Lambo Hinges work on a 4 Door Vehicle?
Most of the Vertical Door Kit systems can be installed on any car or truck. However, they are made to convert the two front doors only. They are not intended to convert the back passenger doors. You can have Lambo style front doors and conventional rear ones, or Suicide doors. We do offer Angel Door Conversion Kits that you can use to convert the back doors of your truck or sedan into a Lambo style. Angel kits are 50% bolt on and 50% weld on and need to be installed by a professional welder. We also offer Suicide Door Conversion Kits.

  16. How do the Vertical kits function?
When outside you will grab the door handle of the car. Pulling the door toward you the door will open 12 - 18 inches like they do normally, but only half way. From there the door will stop and not open horizontally any further. Once done you will now grab the bottom of the door and lift vertically. The door will then reach a certain point at which it will not lift anymore. At this point you will be able to get in and out of the vehicle. In normal case the bottom back portion of the door will be higher than the roof of the vehicle.

  17. Do the doors wobble when open vertically, once the Vertical Kit is installed?
Yes a little. This is the same as a genuine Lamborghini - certainly no worse. Because the pivots are so far away from the door, which is very heavy a little play in the pivot (to allow it to move freely) translates into some wobble when fully open. All kits have safety stops to prevent the door from hitting the bodywork.

  18. Are Lambo Hinges street legal?
That varies from state to state. Check your local laws to be sure. As many of aftermarket car parts, these are designed for off road and recreational use only.

  19. We are wondering why your prices are so low? We have seen other companies selling their systems for $1000.00 or more! How do you do it?
Simple! We are a wholesaler of these systems and the pricing you see here on the website is the same pricing that we offer to our dealers and businesses. Basically, you are getting your system at wholesale prices even though you are just a retail customer.

  20. If I order my Vertical Doors kit today, when will I receive it?
We do our best to ship all of our orders within next couple of days after we receive the order. This is faster than what most companies offer and it gets the product in your hands a little quicker!
